Melissa Core - Dancer & Model

Melissa Core

Well, I was born in the western suburbs of Sydney and by the age of two my mother and I then moved to Wollongong which is south east of Sydney. It's an incredible little town located just minutes from the beach, bush and well you have a lot of everything right at your door step.

My first hobby as a child was athletics, the reason being my mother was a state champion runner and long jumper so i was introduced to this sport first and became to love it.But after going on a cruise with my mother to Tasmaina at the age of seven, I became great friends with a girl who was a dancer. After spending some time with her on the cruise , she taught me some of her routines and i eventually became obsessed with this hobbie and surely enough when we arrived home guess who got enrolled at a dance studio.

I still kept up athletics and eventually got a coach as i was getting more serious about it and truly had a goal to break a district record. Shortly after some time i broke the 13 year old girls district record for long jump I was thrilled and luckily i had achieved what i wanted in the nick of time as both activities took a tole on my body and i had to quit all sports for a year. A year had past and i could choose one sport to continue with and well performing gave me an endless feeling of satisfaction so dancing it was.

Well who was to know it became my life's goal to fulfill every milestone that had to with dance and performance. The love for music and performing runs through my family's veins, as my mother is a singer / actress and my father a singer /guitarist.

My Father taught me guitar at a young age and the first song i learnt was smoke on the water by Deep Purple , but to my surprise and his when it was my turn to try the combination that he had just shown me, i played upside down which is also left handed, and well i am right handed. Yes i know very strange but i became to like this instrument and my dad liked teaching me, as i reminded him of his much loved band and lead member Paul Macartney from the Beetles. So i continued to learn bass, electric , piano and drums I played these instruments all through high school, Plus i even gave singing and composing music a shot. Every concert that came up at school I just did not know whether i wanted to dance, sing or play in my band so surely enough i did it all.

Through out my years of dance I was trained in tap, jazz , modern and i taught myself hip hop by music videos. I taught myself this way as Wollongong had no hip hop classes available, oh i know what your thinking where is the ballet? sadly enough, i am not a ballet person at all, i admire those who do it but for me unless they were to combined hip hop moves and those wooden shoes together, i do not want a piece of it..

So at the age of 16 (year 11) i left high school to manage my own three girl dance team I think everyone i spoke to about it gave me a new and interesting lecture about this risk i was taking. But like always if i want to do something good luck talking me out of it plus i am a hands on person , being right in the industry and thrown in the deep end is the best experience you can get..

The dance group survived only six months, we had sponsors ,photographers, advertising material and jobs lined up, but sadly the commitment was not there. So after re thinking the management position i loved so much i joined an agency in Q.L.D and a at the age of 18 was off on a contract to India then shortly after India was Taiwan.then America...

Modeling for me was also an enormous goal that i wanted to shoot for, but being quite a shy person and not having a lot of self confidence i did not pursue it until i reached 18.I decided to put all my negative thoughts to the back of my mind and give it a shot, all i knew is that it made me happy and happiness is the key to life so i would be silly not to at least try. After learning the inns and outs of the industry, working with photographers and finding my feet in the industry i really threw myself out there and worked consistently and was lucky enough to come in contact with Dream Row who has helped me greatly firstly by creating this amazing site and secondly for being the amazing people and company that they have worked so hard to be. From there i have been generating all of my own work and have been my own agent for three years.

Now if you put aside all the goals and wants out of life that i strive for and want to know who i am as a person ill tell you.

I love laughter and humour is a must throughout life, my dad so confidently lives by this rule , and luckily I caught onto it.

So to sum up my vision of life this is how i see it, people value once in a life time opportunities, goals they set up to achieve or even material objects they try so hard to obtain. People put all these desires on a pedestal as at any moment they can come crashing down. So i always wonder why people do not put life on a pedestal as it of all things can come crashing down, Life is what you personally make of it and how can you lose in life when in this movie your the producer, director and main character.

Live each day is if it were your last..

Thank you for taking the time to read a little about me,

- Melissa

Great look, Melissa, especially those eyes!!!! I enjoyed reading your story, too. You are certainly very self-motivated and a strong, independent woman. Congrats for all your accomplishments. Would like to do a photo shoot with you sometime. Let me know if you're interested. I'll be shooting in Europe for the next three months.

Go get 'em, Melissa! -Gregg
